This is our Fisherman who comes on a moped. I love the fact that he still uses that old balance which is such a rare sight these days. He's been coming to our house from a very long time but I've never felt the need to ask him his name 'cos we simply call him 'Meenkaran /Fisherman' :-)

Its been so long since I saw this
he carries the weights and balance in his cycle ? Wow ..that is a rare thing these days.. reminds me of my hometown of Kannur back in the 90s... the "coooeeeee" call of theirs. :)
I got to see this only after I went Kannur :)... Fresh Fish :)
Are you in Kerala?
I'm in India as well, and I'm enjoying this monsoon-ish weather...so relaxing :)

What a lovely post - a meenkaran...we had a meenkaari or a "Machhiwaali" as we called them -a Koli woman (Kolis - the fishing community of Bombay, also considered to be the original inhabitants), her name was Kusum....she'd spent an hour haggling and gossipping with my mom...have some really fond memories of her. Your post made me homesick!
One of the things I love about Kerala...fresh fish delivered at our doorstep by our very own meenkaaran!!
I remember the good old days at Kannur, when we have our Meenkaran coming in with fresh catch so early, we used to have my mom's chapatti/puttu with fish curry and fry for breakfast and go to school. Mmmhh....
